"JIM" BLOOD FUNERAL TODAY
Had Been Familiar Character Here or a Lifetime.

James Albert Blood, always known as "Jim" and a familiar character about Edina for a normal lifetime, died about 5:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. He was 85 years old and had been failing rapidly the last year or more. At the time of his death he was being cared for at the Joe Leckbee home.
He came here with his when 8 years old. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, Oct. 9, 1855, a relative says, while the parents were enroute West, although he has said he was born in Boston, Mass. His parents, first stopping in Iowa, settled near Old Alexandria when "Jim" was 4 years old, later coming on to Edina. The father, J. C. Blood, was one of Edina's first stone masons and opened the first rock quarry here, supplying stone for foundations of a good part of Edina's buildings, both residence and business.
He also ran a butcher shop in Edina, lastly where the telephone office now is. Later he purchased the land where the White Castle filling station now stands, building there a frame building and later, adjoining it on the south, he erected the 2-story brick building now owned by Raymond E. Cahalan.
The son, "Jim" Blood, conducted a grocery store for many years. After disposing of the grocery store he worked as a painter.
He is survived by two daughters of a marriage in early life, Roxie Blood Glidewell of Milan, and Mary, of Denver, the oldest, and a sister, Mrs. M. B. Colton of St. Louis. Three sisters are dead. There also survive two nieces, Miss L. Esther Eubank of Kirksville and Mrs. Edward Bowker of Portland, and a nephew, B. F. Eubank, Baton Rouge, La.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon with burial in Linville cemetery.
