Man Dies As He Drives Car

A 41-year-old carpenter employed at a Cumberland housing project suffered a fatal heart attack Monday while driving on Route 220, four miles north of Bedford, Pa. Carl A. Vaughn, of Route 2, Bedford, was pronounced dead shortly after he was stricken. Coronary thrombosis caused his death.

Vaughn and his wife, Ethel, had stopped at Bedford County Memorial Hospital to pick up their daughter, Mrs. Rhea Banner, also of Route 2, who recently gave birth to a child. Mrs. Vaughn saw her husband slump over in the driver's seat and grabbed the steering wheel before the vehicle went off the road. She applied the brakes and then flagged down a passing motorist.

Vaughn was born January 17, 1910, in Altoona, Pa., a son of the late John and Lonnie (Mock) Vaughn.

Besides his widow and daughter, he leaves an adopted son Elby F. Park, 3rd, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Theresa Sipes, Everett Pa.; Mrs. Marie Bender, St. Clairsville, Pa., and Mrs. Theodora Hengst, Route 2, Bedford; two brothers, Harry Vaughn, Route 2, Bedford and Kenneth Vaughn, St. Clairsville, and two grandchildren.

Services will be held tomorrow at 2 p. m. from the home with Rev. Thomas D. Garner, Pastor of St. John's Reformed Church, Bedford, officiating.

Burial will take place in Fishertown Cemetery.
