Tobias Herbert "Tobie" Bowen was the son of John T. Bowen and Fannie (Ausmus) Bowen. He was the only known child of his parents, and his mother died less than 10 months after his birth.

Tobie's father remarried to Mandy Duggan and they had 9 known children.

Tobie registered for the World War I draft on June 5, 1918, and at that time was living in Rio Grande County, Colorado. Tobie did serve his country during World War I.

On June 1, 1919 in Knox County, Missouri, Tobie married Alma L. Duggins, daughter of James R. Duggins (1864-1932) and Elizabeth (Leach) Duggins (1868-1943) of Knox County, Missouri. Tobie farmed in the Shelbyville, Missouri area. They had the following known children:

Leon Bowen 1924-
Earl Bowen 1926-
Lloyd Bowen 1928-

Note: These are the children who are shown in the 1930 census of Taylor, Shelby County, Missouri. There may have been other children born after this.

At the age of 61, Tobie received a traumatic chest injury in an automobile accident on a rural road near Clarence in Shelby County, Missouri on November 28, 1957. He died two hours later in Samaritan Hospital at Macon, Missouri. He was buried at Maplewood Cemetery.

The Social Security Deatha Records show that Tobie's wife Alma died in December 1976 at Shelbyville, Shelby County, Missouri. It is assumed she is buried by Tobie, but this is not known for sure.
