He enlisted in New Mexico to serve in the Spanish-American War of 1898. He moved to Hawaii shortly after the turn of the century, and lived in the territory until his death. He worked as a Linotype operator for the Evening Bulletin, and its successor, the Star-Bulletin. He was a widower, and was survived by 10 children. He was a member of Lodge Le Progres de l'Oceanie, No. 371, F. & A. M. and also was a Shriner. Obituary in The Honolulu Advertiser lists his birthdate as Nov. 22, 1874.
