Being from Hawaii, I grew up with stories of the events of Dec. 7, 1941, and the bravery of military and civilians then and in the days that followed. And of course the incredible strength and courage of those who served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the 100th Infantry Battalion, as well as the MIS. Thankfully, some veterans began sharing their stories before they passed, and it is an honor to contribute to their memorials.

The government has been working to identify the remains of those who died in Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941 and who were buried as unknowns. Now that these people are being returned to their families to be honored and laid to rest, it is an honor to help remember them here. Thank you to fellow volunteers who are contributing images and information.

Speaking of volunteers helping, please check out my virtual cemetery labeled "& vets need family." I am placing memorials there for which I'd especially appreciate your help locating basic information so their memorials can be made richer and can be linked to family.

If I have taken photos of your loved one's memorial, please click through to see the original images, which will be sharper than the thumbnails on the memorial page. Note that this site scales all images to 250 pixels for page views but preserves full file size for original views. I check all images for clarity and focus before sharing them here. I also try to provide both close-up and wider-angle views, and include location and memorial notes in captions. You have my permission to copy my images for your personal, nonprofit use; a photo credit would be appreciated. Special thanks to those who have helped me locate members of our far-flung family.
