Esther Hage Ganem, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on June 19, 2011 at the age of 82.

The eighth child of longtime Austin merchants, A.K. and Mary Kouri Hage, Esther was born on February 24, 1929 in Manor, Texas. After moving to Austin, she attended St. Mary's Parochial School and St. Mary's Academy. Upon completion of high school, she worked at A.K. Hage Department Store on 6th Street, and the Co-Ed Shop on the Drag. Esther met her husband, Bill, in 1953 at a Lebanese-American Convention, and they married in 1954.

Esther is survived by Bill, her husband of 56 years; her three children, Deborah Ganem of Austin, Patricia (Dan) Ogle of San Antonio, and Billy (Christine) Ganem of Austin; grandchildren Brock, Tyler and Mandy Ogle, and Jessica and Will Ganem; sister Peggy (Jim) Samon of Austin, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Charles Hage, sisters Julia Joseph, Ruby Daywood, Josephine Haik, Mary Hage, Isabel Jabour, and Bernice Hage.

Esther was a longtime member of St. Louis Catholic Church for 52 years, where she volunteered at the elementary school when her children were young. Her family was everything to her, and she found great delight in her role as grandmother. Her love for us was selfless; always putting her family first, comforting us and making us all feel secure and special. She taught us how to love unconditionally. She was the greatest wife and mother a husband or child could ever ask for.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation at 6:00 p.m. and rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Rd., Austin 78757, with entombment to follow at Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum.

She is with the Lord now. Her tender touch will be missed
