Early Sunday morning on February 12, 2006, Josephine Christine Hage Haik, one of God's most precious spirits, was called to join Him in heaven. For those who knew and loved her, we are grateful for the blessing of her life, and we will forever keep her in our hearts and treasure memories of her selfless love and laughter.

She was born in Manor, Texas, December 24, 1914. Josephine resided in Austin most of her life since her parents, A.K. and Mary Kouri Hage, relocated the family mercantile business to Austin. She was married to the late Mitchel Haleem Haik and lived in Waco, Texas, where her son and daughter were born.

Josephine worked in her parents business and later she and her husband owned a restaurant in Waco. When she returned to Austin, she worked for the Bureau of Vital Statistics at the Texas State Health Department and retired after working over 32 years. All through the years, Josephine was full of life and her focus was always on her family. She worked outside the home to support the son and daughter she brought into this world, all the while being a loving and supportive mother and in later years a best friend and companion to them as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charles K. Hage, her sisters, Julia Joseph, Ruby Daywood, Isabel Jabour, and Mary Hage.
Josephine is survived by her son, Daniel Haik and his wife, Elaine of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her daughter, Carolyn Haik of Austin; her sisters, Bernice Hage, Esther Ganem and husband, Bill, Peggy Samon and husband, Jim; and many nieces and nephews and their children.

She was full of love and laughter and forever generous with her affection and support. Her loss cannot be measured but we will cherish memories of expressions of her love in all that she said and did and hold them in our hearts forever.

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to service, Thursday, February 16, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home with Father George Joseph Celebrant. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
