During the Civil War, Samuel served in Company F under his cousin Capt. Richard B. Foley.
Samuel died sometime before Apr 1867, when Emazella remarried in Mercer county to Napoleon F. Harless. It's not known if he died during the war, as a result of wounds or sickness suffered during the war, or from some other cause. If he died at home, he would have been buried with his mother in the Sneed family cemetery.
Emazella died 7 Oct 1901.
