John died in 1922 and according to an article written about John and his family by Mr. & Mrs. Syrus W. Sneed in the Mercer County History published in 1984, page 404, he was buried in the Winding Gulf cemetery. This can be identified as the Farley Hill Baptist church cemetery at Winding Gulf, a coal mining town developed in 1910. This article lists seven children of his, four boys and three girls. However, ten are listed on the various censuses.
