FANNIE BREEDING DIED LAST WEEK
Pioneer Woman Succumbs After Four Score Years in County
A pioneer resident of Madison county passed last Friday with the death of Mrs. Fannie Breeding, who had spent most of her four score years in Madison county, and whose family has been one of the most widely known in the community.
Mrs. Breeding died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William McClure of Douglas township, with whom she had made her home in recent years. She was 80 years of age, and had been ill but a few days.
Mrs. Breeding was the former Fannie Ann O'Dell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sol O'Dell, and was born in Adams county on Dec. 26, 1858. She came with her parents to this county as a child.
In June, 1874, she was married to James W. Breeding. They were the parents of seven sons and three daughters. Her husband died in 1903.
She united with the Methodist church in Winterset in 1926, and as long as her health permitted she was an active member.
She is survived by four sons, Sam Breeding of Napa, Cal., Charles Breeding of Winterset, Fred Breeding of Kansas City, Mo., and Robert Breeding of Ft. Madison; two daughters, Mrs. Rilla Schoenenberger and Mrs. Nellie McClure, both of Winterset; 27 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Worth Sayre of Franklin, Minn. Three sons and a daughter preceded their mother in death. They were Sol Breeding, Joe Breeding, and Earl Breeding, and Mrs. Anna Jones.
Funeral services were held from the Tidrick funeral home here Monday, conducted by the Rev. J. R. McNichols, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was to be made in the Union Chapel cemetery as soon as the condition of the roads permit.
