Mr. Hendon passed from this life on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005 at the age of 82.
He was born in Knox County Nov. 25, 1922 to Iris and Tom Hendon. They moved to the West Texas community of Welch when Tobe was 7 years old. He graduated Valedictorian of Dawson High School in 1940. He was connected with lumber yards in ODonnell, Levelland, Olton, Abernathy, Muleshoe and Morton, where he and Cherolyne have resided their 30 years of marriage.
Tobe is survived by his wife, Cherolyne Roberts Hendon; two daughters, Yvonne Layman and husband Truman of Earth and Belinda Oden and husband Lee of Lovington, N.M.; one step-son, Farley Inglis and wife Kathy of Lake Dallas; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Birdie Parker of Welch and Frances Burkett and husband Jim of Gail; two brothers, Royce "Jack" and wife Lucille of Colorado Springs, Colo., and E.L. "Gene" and wife Jeannie of Lamesa; one brother-in-law, Daryl Roberts and wife Maureen of Amarillo; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Roberts of Morton and Nell Wanda Waller Duncan of Midland.
Mr. Hendon was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his daughters, Margaret Waller Hendon, in 1974; granddaughter, Gayla Tinley and her son, Brannon; a sister, Louise Barrington; and brothers, Lynn and J.T. "Pete" Hendon.
