Daughter of Harry Samuel Dudley (1910-1986)
& Golden Irene Strong Dudley (1908-1975)

Name: Peggy Joe* Dudley
Birth: 16 July 1931 at Los Angeles Co.
Mother's Maiden Name: Strong
[Spelled "Peggy Jo," per signature on Marriage License]
*spelled 'Joe' according to her children.

Peggy's pholkes; Goldie & Harry met at Shosone Idaho at Goldies' Aunt Millie Strong Frisbie's Boarding House. Peggy is named after her father's sister Peggy Jewell' who died as a young girl. How Peggy Joe's Dad; Harry, got from Texas to Idaho and why is a mystery. We are very happy that Harry got there and lodged where he did. Harry would be working at the Lead mine where Aunt Millies' husband, Walt Frisbie, worked.

By the April 18, 1940 Census, Los Angeles, California; the Strong & Dudley Family resided at 9710 1/2 Compton Ave. The household was comprised of:
Harry Dudley, head of house, aged 28, b. TX, truck driver freight hauling
Goldie Dudley, wife, 31, b. OK
Eula May Turentine (Census transcription is "Qurentia" as surname for Eula, Harvey & William), foster dau**, 15, b. OK
Harvey Turentine, foster son**, 13, b. OK
William Turentine, foster son**, 11, b. OK
Peggy Dudley, dau, 8, b. CA
Viola Dudley, dau, 7, b. CA
**NOTE: Eula, Harvey & William were not foster children. Goldie was their biological mother and Harry was their step-father. Harry had wanted to adopt the three but Goldie said 'no', she wanted them to know their last name and be able to research their biological father if they wanted to.
In 1935 the family lived at Wilmington, Los Angeles, California, per the 1940 Census.

Peggy's husband was known as Bud to the Strong~Dudley Family.

Peggy's only husband Bryan 'Bud' Gentry Hawley was on the Marine Corps Muster Rolls by October 1944, at least 5 years before they were married.
Peggy met Bud some place around Lomita ... she was attending Narbonne High School and he came to Southern California to build the Torrance Airport, the Zamperini Field.

In 1975 Peggy and Bud would take their first ever vacation. Peggy's Mom; Goldie, was in the hospital, it was difficult for Peggy to go out of town. Peggy borrowed her brothers truck and camper to go to the Kern River ... the whole family loved to go to the Kern. Peggy had stopped taking her blood pressure medicine. Maybe that is why she fell and hit her head on a rock, Bud took Peggy to Torrance Memorial Hospital, the 'only' hospital the Family would go to. Peggy had an aneurism, she never woke up. Peggy was in such overall good health that it was requested her corneas be transplanted to a 16 year old. The Family consented.
