Thanks to Jim Tipton
for creating Find A Grave. Thanks to the photographers and to all of you contributors for your service.

Please don't hesitate to contact me. Find A Grave memorials should be viewed as works in progress. I am excited to receive and post new information to honor the memory of a soul who has passed. And thoughtful additions to memorials can help to make virtual visits to their resting places more meaningful.

*Please provide the source of your info (example: 1st hand personal knowledge, family Bible, Death cert., etc).

When I add your additional information/ corrections/ links to a memorial, it is my custom to credit you and also create a link to your contributor profile page.

I do get a heavy volume of requests each day. If I have not responded to your request within several weeks, please contact me again. Your message may have "fallen through the cracks" for any number of reasons.

"The goal at Find A Grave should not be to manage all of your family members. If you have information to add, you should suggest it to the current manager and they should make the changes."
~Jim Tipton, creator of Find A Grave.

Of course, I am pleased to transfer memorials to very close family members. Please include your exact relationship when requesting a transfer. Also please describe the individual in detail so I may check your facts against cemetery records to assure we have the right person.

Please "maintain" a transferred memorial. Remember that you did not create the transferred memorial; you are entrusted to be its guardian, to preserve its history of contributions by others. Basic Good manners. (Perhaps add your new info at the top & let the older contributions roll to the bottom. Ask previous contributors before deleting their info)

Frequently asked question:
Why are so many memorials without dates?
Answer- The entire official Green Hills Memorial Park database was uploaded onto Find A Grave. This database was largely without birth & death dates. Dates are being added on a daily basis based on cemetery burial dates, headstone photographs & research. In the meantime, it is a gift from Green Hills & Warren Weimer to have the entire cemetery available on Find A Grave.

Best wishes...

Henson Smith in Fairview Cemetery
Since I was in Memphis, Texas and Henson Smith is a relative of my husbands (a brother of his grandfather) we tried to solve the location of Henson Smith's grave. Through the city hall we have some information for you.

If you have been to the Fairview Cemetery, which I am sure you have, you know most of the graves are in plots. There is a Smith plot in the South section that has the graves of Oliver K. Smith-Henson's brother and Zherl Quintin Smith-Henson's nephew (my husband's uncle). The city did a probing of the other six graves in that plot to see if anyone else was buried there without gravestones. They did not find anything that way BUT they did find an old metal marker on the grave to the West of Oliver's indicating a grave is there for someone. It is highly likely that this is Henson's grave. The city is going to give the information about Henson and this possibility to the cemetery association to see if they can add anything to this. If there is more convincing evidence, my husband and I will be making sure a simple gravestone is there for Henson. Enclosed is the city's words:

Hi Joi,

Please find attached a diagram of the Smith plot we had discussed on the phone. We did not locate anything when we probed, but did find an
old metal marker directly west of Oliver Smith as you can see in the diagram.

There are no records here at the City that go back to 1916 to verify if this could be the grave for Henson Smith. I have passed this information along to our Cemetery Association to see if they can
locate any other information. If they do we will contact you. I am sorry we could not be more help.

Sincerely,
Cindy Woodard, Office Assistant
City of Memphis

PS-although I can't copy and paste the grave diagram-Oliver and Zherl are on the same row and the possible grave is on the second row, west of Oliver.

Shall keep you informed.
