Ellen Catherine Leavitt Jones of Shawnee. Born in Coweta, Oklahoma, March 31, 1908 to John H. and Vinnie Lamb Leavitt. In 1910, the family moved to Oklahoma City near Belle Isle Lake where Mr. Leavitt helped in developing the lake, amusement park, and Belle Isle Dairy. During this period, Catherine Jones' uncle and aunt, Anton H. and Ella D. Classen, developed a large portion of Oklahoma City.

She attended Oklahoma City schools and graduated from Central High School in 1926 as a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Ward Belmont Boarding School in Nashville, Tennessee, and transferred to the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Delta Gamma. Graduated 1931 Phi Beta Kappa. Married to Walter S. Jones on September 23, 1934. Mrs. Jones was active in Delta Gamma affairs, both alumni and the active chapters for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Jones of the home; nephews and nieces, Terrance and Patricia Mangan of Shawnee, and Dr. J.D. and JoAnn Savage of Hominy; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Ann Leavitt of Tulsa. Arrangements are being handled by Roesch Funeral Chapel of Shawnee. Graveside services Friday, 1 p.m., at Rose Hill Cemetery, Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Delta Gamma Sorority at the University of Oklahoma or other charity.
