81, of Lincoln, went to be with God quietly on Monday, June 6, 2011. She was born October 30, 1929 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Ewart and Stella (McCaig) Mohler. She attended Clinton, Whittier and Northeast High Schools, graduating in 1947. In seeking to further her education, she then attended Saint Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1950. On November 19, 1950, Gwen married Alan Farmer, a marriage that lasted for over 60 wonderful years. They had three children: Steven, Mark and Cindy. During 1952 and 1953, Gwen and son Steven spent several months living in Newport, RI, where her husband was stationed with the Navy. Most of her nursing career was spent working in the infirmary at Gateway Manor in Lincoln, Nebraska. Gwen thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family. As a retired nurse, she also enjoyed many years volunteering her time at Saint Elizabeth Hospital. She was a long time member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and PEO Chapter FF. Gwen will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Visitation: Closed casket visitation: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O' Street.

Service: Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday (6-10-11) St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd. Pastor Kara James, officiating.

Cemetery: Prior interment at the Elmwood Cemetery at 9:30 a.m.
Memorials: Memorials in lieu of flowers are requested to be given to the Capital City Kiwanis Foundation for the "Gwen Farmer Nursing Scholarship Endowment".

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald and Jerry; sister-in-law Barbara Farmer Benedict and brothers-in-law Sterling Maus and Pete Tuin. She is survived by her husband Alan; children, Steven Farmer and wife Gayle of Columbus, NE; Mark Farmer and wife Margie of Las Vegas, NV; and Cindy Rogers and husband Tim of Henderson, NV; seven grandchildren: Bryan Farmer, Dr. Brandon Farmer and wife Cari, Julie Banning and husband Ethan, Katie Farmer, Kurt Farmer, Sierra and Kelli Rogers; two great granddaughters, Gabriella and Sophia Banning; two sisters, Barbara Maus and JoAnn Tuin, and many nieces and nephews.
