MRS. F. ANDRIST DIES ON MONDAY October 23, 1961 at Marinette General Hospital. She had been ill for one and one-half months.

The former Hattie Mae Stark was born in Mantorville, Dodge County, Minnesota on July 11, 1894 to Jacob and Sarah Maxson Stark to a family of nine siblings. She married Frederick Andrist there on October 31, 1912. The couple lived in Minnesota for a time and then homesteaded in Montana and later moved to Grays Lake, Illinois before moving to Amberg, Wisconsin in 1926.

Hattie was the busy mother of 10 living children with 2 large gardens and a rasberry patch to tend. Her goal was to have at least 500 quarts of vegetables, fruits and meat canned every year. She baked 8 to 10 loaves of bread at a time and her homemade cinnamon rolls were well known in the area. She made pancakes 365 days a year for her children. Hattie always took the children to White Rapids Church while Fred cooked the Sunday meal and listened to church on the radio. In the afternoon friends arrived for a game of cards.

Hattie was survived by five sons; Lester and Leon of Amberg, Sydney of Mlwaukee, Harland serving in the military in Stuttgard, Germany and Duane of Des Plaines, Illinois. Five daughters survive also; Fae Hallfrish of Marquette, MI, Joyce Conley of Chelsey, MI, Mildred Lindgren of Daggett, MI, Helen Johnson of Lena, WI and Arleen Messenger of Wausaukee, WI. At the time of her passing she had 39 grandchildren.

Burial was in the Amberg Cemetery beside her husband Fred and two infant children, Arold and Irene. Another infant daughter Betty is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Kasson, Minnesota.

Daughters Helen and Arleen gave the personal information for Hattie and Fred's stories that are part of a family book written in 2011.
