He is my 4G grandfather.
He was the youngest son of John Sheffield and his second wife, Elizabeth Graddy. They married Sep 29, 1779 in Duplin, NC. Johns 1st wife was Nancy Turner.

Arthur 1st married Permelia Phillips. Permelia was born Sept 4, 1796 in North Carolina. They married Dec 10, 1811 in Laurens County, GA. They had 11 children. Shortly after the marriage they moved to Early county Georgia and are recorded in Early Histories of Georgia as among the original Settlers of Miller County, in 1818.

He 2nd married Elizabeth Caroline Phillips. She is the niece of his 1st wife, Permilia "Pamala" Phillips. She was born in 1833 in Bulloch County, GA. They married Dec 24, 1854 in Bulloch County, GA. I have only found 2 children - Andrew Jackson Sheffield born abt 1855 and Rachel Sarahann Sheffield born May 20, 1858.

The following info from another family member via email -

JUDGE ARTHUR G. POWELL said "My father used to tell me that if I were in Miller County and met a man I did not know I should say Good Morning, Mr. Sheffield'. If he said he was not a Sheffield , I should say Good Morning, Mr. Bush'. If he protested that he was not a Bush, I should say Good Morning, I see you are a stranger here'"...

Portion of Arthur's Will:
3rd Hence, I will and bequeath and devise to my beloved wife, Elizabeth Caroline, with whom I have lived in the strictest guise for eight years, and the Rise, the East half of lot land number one hundred (196) and ninety-six in the Thirteenth District of the County of Miller and also the west half of the lot of land number one hundred and sixty-five (165). Also, three beds, bedsteads and furniture, three head of horses or mules as she may choose, and one years provisions, and also twenty-five head of stock cattle, and thirty head of stock hogs, and at her death or marriage, I wish the above lands to be equally divided between some of my children - viz - James M. Sheffield, William G. Sheffield, Wright Sheffield, Elizabeth Holder, West Sheffield, John C. Sheffield, and Julia Susan Mathis, and the estate above in turn to be equally divided between my two youngest children (viz) Andrew Jackson and Rachel Sheffield and their heirs forever.

4th Item - I will and bequeath to my son Bryant A. Sheffield, Eliza Weaver, Permelia Smith, Arcansas Sheffield five dollars each to them and their heirs forever.

5th Item - I will and desire that the property in deed of gift before made to my son, Andrew J. Sheffield and my daughter Rachel Sheffield and Grandson Daniel Sheffield be their full share of the Remaining portion of my estate.

6th Item - All the rest of my property that may be in possession of at my death I desire to be equally divided among the seven children herein before named including the first seven.

7th Item - I constitute and appoint my beloved son Wm G. Sheffield and his friend William B. Daniel Executors of this my last Will and Testament this Eleventh day of May 1863.

His first wife Parmelia Phillips Sheffield has a gravestone naming her as "consort of Arthur Sheffield". There is no marker bearing Arthurs name.

Arthurs second wife is not buried here. I know his second wife remarried and therefore she may be by her second husband. We just do not know...yet. I am exhausting all resources to find out where he is at rest. He may even be at Keaton, but he is not marked if he is.
