Permelia Phillips Sheffield

The picture on file of Permelia's gravesite is from Linda Sheffield Steele and her note about the picture reads:
This is at the Keaton Cemetery... some call it the Old Damascus Cemetery.... It is about a mile from Damascus in Early County GA. What we could read on the broken slab is " PAMELA Consort of Arthur Sheffield September 5, 1796 April 25, 1854 in the 58th year of her age. The writing is barely legible on the photo. Arthur is also buried here. Arthur's gravesite has an iron fence and gate around it.

Permelia's father was Daniel Phillips. A list of Daniel Phillip's children was left by Grandson John Calhoun Sheffield (1832-1919). They were as follows: John, Joe, Silas, Benjamin, Susan and Permelia and there may be more.

1830 Census of Early County, GA
Daniel E. Phillips
1 Male 15-20
2 Male 20-30
1 Male 70-80
1 Female 10-15
1 Female 50-60

"The 1783 Spanish Census of Florida" as published in the Georgia Genealogical Magazine, there is:
Daniel Phillips: Native of Georgia, avails by writing of Spanish protection to retire, has a wife and two sons, occupation farmer, he has one Negro and inhabits and cultivates an estate on Trout Inlet on the St. John's River.
Probate Records of Early County Georgia on p-62 Daniel E. Phillips’ property appraisal dated 10 November 1840.

Second source of information is found in the Archives of the State of Georgia, Atlanta which states that he received land in the land lottery. All land received was in Early County, Georgia.

Indenture was made between Daniel E. Phillips and Jane Phillips on May 4, 1837 and filed for record December 22, 1839. I reads as if Daniel E. Phillips is an older man expecting death and wants his daughter Jane to Have a tract of land 228 acres in Early County Ga. The Indenture was filed after his death, so we know Daniel died before 1839.
William and John Phillips with Joel W. Perry serving as Clerk witnessed the Indenture.
