General William Reed was born in 1751 in York County, Pennsylvania, son of many sons and daughters of James (b. Ulster 1710) and Magaret Floyd.
Wm served in the Revolutionary War as a 1st Lieutenant. The "General" later served as Adjunct-General for Pennsylvania during the War of the Militia 1812. He died in 1813 at the age of 62 while serving in the War in New Alexandria, PA.
Under Penn CIC Governor Simon Snyder, Wm Reed was responsible for organizing, assembling, overseeing the building of the PA Militias, state defenses, including those at Fort McHenry that would be crucial in the American victory over the British Fleet and invasion forces.
During the Revolutionary War birth of Pennsylvania, Wm was an Elector for Berks County at the 1790 PA 2nd Constitutional Convention, and a signer of PA's 2nd State Constitution. Wm served many years in the PA State Legislature as a Senator.
Wm Reed married Nancy Miller, daughter of John Miller of Millerstown, PA (now Fairfield). Gen Reed lived with Nancy in Millerstown, occupying the same home of her father, John Miller. Wm Miller is Nancy Miller Reed's brother; William Miller served as a PA Senator from 1805-1808.

General Wm Reed's son, Samuel Miller Reed served as a Captain in the PA Vols Militias, War of 1812. Samuel's daughter Harriet Rebecca Reed married Presbyterian Reverand Missionary Edward Ratchford Geary in Fredericksburg Ohio but she unfortunately died there while Rev Geary served as Reverand. Rev Geary soon remarried Ms Woodbridge and traveled to the Oregon Territories with the purpose for establishing the OR Presbytery.
Edward R Geary was appted Superintendent of Indian Affairs by the POTUS after the Yakima Wars.
Of extraordinary Millerstown Reed Geary White Agnew Ratchford stock, Rev Geary founded the OR and WA Presbytery, and also founded Union Point College, the Albany Collegiate Institute and Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Albany, OR.
Another note is Rev Edward Geary's brother, the "PA Giant". John White Geary, the famed Mexican American War Colonel, the Culps Hill Gettysburg and Civil War campaigns General's General, the Maj General of the PA Vols White Stars of the 20th, 11th, 12th Corps under CIC Lincoln Meade, Grant, Hooker, Sherman; he was the MX-American War Colonel leading his PA Highlanders to victory at the Citadel, awarded the Mexico City Governing Commandant post, the last Alicante and 1st Mayor of San Francisco, 1st CA Postmaster, and 1x Kansas Territory Gov, 2x Pennsylvania Governor...

Gen. William Reed was an officer in the Third Battalion of York County Militia during the Revolution. He was chosen a member of the constitutional convention which framed the 2nd constitution of Pennsylvania in 1790. Wm became brigade inspector of York County Militia April 25, 1800, and Member of the State Senate from 1800 to 1806. The Governor appointed Wm Reed Adjutant-General of the State of Pennsylvania August 4, 1811.
Reed took sick and suddenly died June 15, 1813, at New Alexandria, Westmoreland Co., PA while organizing the county's State militia.
His remains were interred near Millerstown (now Fairfield), Adams County.
