Think that Grandpa [Albert] was born in Stuttgart, Germany (or in that vicinity). He was born on Nov 22, 1855 and died (was killed by being hit by a car) on Dec 8, 1939 (lived a few days after the accident). He lived in Michigan City for awhile and met his future wife, my Grandma Gehring (Mary Catherine? Biever) who was from Wanatah at a bakery where she worked. I don't know her birth date, but her death date is March 22, 1927.
My Mom always told me she was happy when I was born because she got to see me. She died 3 wks. after I was born. Grandpa was a gravestone engraver. He carved the gravestone at Greenwood cemetery in Michigan City. They were related somehow to the Kinzele's in Michigan City.
They had more children than I knew--some died at EARLY ages, but I knew 10!
My Aunt Bertha Gehring (remained single) was born on Sept 30, 1886 and died of cancer on October 19, 1942. She is buried in the Michigan City cemetery.
My Aunt Grace was born on Dec 31, 1888. She married C.A. Massaro. She died Sept 12,1939 and is buried at Elmwood cemetery, 1418 169th St., Hammond. She was a housewife.
Clara was born Jan 9, 1891 and died Oct. 6, 1982. She was a nun in the Sisters of Providence and is buried at St Mary of the Woods, IN. She taught school.
Marie (Gehring) Kennedy was born on Aug 7, 1893--married Edward T. Kennedy on Sept 5, 1925, died on Sept 25, 1986. Ed worked at Sinclair Oil Co. in East Chicago. They lived in Hammond most of my life at 404 Waltham St. Later moved to Littleton, CO and later to CA to live with their daughter. Edward was born on June 21, 1889--I don't remember his death date. They are buried at Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, CA.
Lauretta was born Oct 1, 1895 and was single most of her life. She worked for the NY Central railroad in Detroit. After my Aunt Grace died, my Aunt Lauretta married C.A. Massaro. Aunt Lauretta died June 23, 1951. She is buried at Elmwood cemetery, Hammond.
Leo Henry (my Dad) was born on July 1, 1897 in Michigan City. He married my Mom, Nellie Duffy, July 18, 1923 at Sacred Heart Church, Whiting. At that time, he and the Gehring family lived on Calumet Ave., Hammond (5600 block, I think). Dad worked as a bookkeeper at Northern IN Lumber and Coal Co. He died Feb 1, 1983 and both he and Mom are buried at Elmwood cemetery, Hammond.
Anne was born Aug 27, 1898 and married Ray Allen from Lake Charles, LA on Sept 5, 1931. They divorced. Anne worked in Dr Kuhn's office in Hammond. She died Nov 12, 1958 of cancer and is buried in Michigan City. Ray worked at City Service Oil Co.
Irene was born Jan 1, 1901. She married Henry Maginot Jan 2, 1929. His birth date was Aug 23, 1897. He was a metal worker self employed. Irene died Nov 14, 1992. Don't know Henry's death date but can get it.
Elinor was born May 11, 1902 and remained single. She was secretary for the head Honcho at Shell Oil Co. She died Feb. 12, 1978 and is buried in Michigan City.
Joseph was born Aug 10, 1903, was married twice (as was his second wife, the only one I knew.) He had a twin sister whom I thnk died at birth. He worked at Argonne Labs (and Solo Cup Co.) His second marriage was to Lucille (Foley, Elwood). He died May 3, 1992 and according to his obit is buried at Oakland cemetery in Dolton. IL. I think this is wrong. I think both he and Lucille were cremated and are buried at Mt Olivet on the Duffy plot--I gave them the burial plots."
