Mrs. H.L. Bolen Funeral Services Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Hubert L. Bolen, mother of Laurance Bolen of Carnegie, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Guardian Funeral Home chapel in Oklahoma City. Burial was at Memorial Park cemetery.
Mrs. Bolen, a resident of Oklahoma City for approximately 55 years, died Monday morning after a critical two-week illness at St. Anthony hospital. She had been in ill health the past five years. Her husband, Hubert L. Bolen, an Oklahoma City lawyer, proceeded, her in death in November 1942.
Reared in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Bolen came to Oklahoma in the Territorial days and taught school for a while near Purcell. In later years she was prominent in church, literary and social affairs in Oklahoma City. She was one of the founders of the Maywood Presbyterian church, now known as the Capitol Presbyterian church.
She was active in book and study clubs, and was a charter member of the Y.W.C.A. and Shakespeare club in Oklahoma City. She gained prominence as an authority on Shakespeare and was widely known as a lecturer in that field.
Survivors include two sons, Laurence of Carnegie, and Ralph of Oklahoma City.
