"Hubert S. Rutherford, 94, of Warrensburg and formerly of Higginsville, died Sept. 10, 2011, at Missouri Veterans Home at Warrensburg. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Hoefer Chapel at Higginsville with the Rev. Cheryl Sanders officiating. A Masonic service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Hoefer Chapel. Burial will be in Higginsville City Cemetery.
Mr. Rutherford was born April 30, 1917, at Risco. He was the son of John Edward and Dora Wineinger Rutherford. He married Earlene Marie Frerking on July 23, 1939. He was a graduate of Orrick High School. He worked as a forklift mechanic for U.S. By-Products at Waverly, retiring in 1979. He lived at Higginsville most of his life, moving to Warrensburg in 2010. He was a member of Aullville Christian Church. He was a member of the Higginsville American Legion Post 223, Higginsville Masonic Lodge and Ararat Shrine Temple of Kansas City. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946.

Mr. Rutherford is survived by two daughters, Shirley Garrison of Kansas City and Carol Willis of Horn Lake, Miss.; four granddaughters; 14 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 14, 2009; a son, Keith Rutherford; four brothers, James Rutherford, Ray Rutherford, Virgil Rutherford and Forrest Rutherford; two sisters, Beulah Johnson and Mary Gerken; and a granddaughter."
