George W. Durant Died Saturday
George W. Durant, passed away at his home in Granbury, Saturday, December 1, 1956. He had been bedfast since suffering a stroke about eight months ago.
Mr. Durant had been a resident of Hood County for seventy-eight years. He was born in Coryell County and was a retired farmer. His death was the first break in the family circle in many years. He and Mrs. Durant celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary during his illness. They were parents of twelve children, a daughter dying in infancy. He had been a member of the Baptist Church since 1909.
His wife and their eleven children survive, six sons, Bona, Stutz, and G. W. Durant of Fort Worth, Truman Durant of Rhome, Reece Durant of Acton and Preston Durant of Belton; five daughters, Mrs. Joe Maples, Mrs. R. H. Sweaney of Fort Worth, Mrs. Milton Kennon, Mrs. W. T. Schlittler of Granbury and Mrs. R. L. Sue of Acton.
Thirty-six grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Rothell of Faxon, Oklahoma and Mrs. Nona Holland of Shafter, California, also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm Monday, December 3, 1956, at the First Baptist Church in Granbury conducted by Rev. James H. Dean and Rev. Ray Reed of Fort Worth. Interment was in the Granbury Cemetery, the Estes Funeral Home in charge. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Mr. Durant will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends, the pleasure he got out of visiting with them through the years.
