V. H. Durant Died Monday At His Home in Acton
Vernon Holmes Durant, 76, died at his home in Acton Monday April 23. He was born in South Carolina February 3, 1869, coming to Texas in 1871 and to Hood County in 1878. He had made his home here since that time. He was married to Miss Ella Snelson in 1897. She passed away in 1902 and in 1904 he was married to Miss Mattie Walters. To each union was born one child, both of whom preceded their father in death.
Mr. Durant has been a member of the Baptist church for a number of years. Rev. McNeil of the Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth conducted the funeral services for him which were held Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist Church in Acton. Interment was in the Elm Flat Cemetery.
Survivors are one brother, George Durant of Granbury; three sisters, Miss Minnie Rothell of Brownfield, who was here for the funeral; Mrs. Will Holland and Mrs. Boyd of California, who were unable to attend; one daughter-in-law and eight grandchildren, three of whom are in the service.
