Rebecca Jacquelyne "Jackie" (Wire) Shelburne, 82, Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 1:13 a.m. Wednesday at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

She was born in Anderson, on Sept. 14, 1928, to Moses and Blanche (Day) Wire. Growing up she shared her childhood as one of 12 children with five sisters and six brothers. She was a proud member of the Noblesville High School Class of 1946. Over the years Jackie was in the thick of things with the planning of many gatherings and reunions for her class.

After high school graduation, Jackie married her best friend and the love of her life Howard Shelburne on Aug. 31, 1946, in Noblesville. Their union of 47 years produced 11 wonderful children. The family tree continued to flourish over the years to include 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Very busy with the responsibilities of the domestic engineer during most of her life, Jackie returned to work outside her home following the passing of Howard. She greatly enjoyed the friendships she garnered working in the production department at Rochester's Superior Sample.

An avid gardener, Jackie was a founding member of Rochester's Garden Club in 1970. She helped make Rochester a more beautiful place for 41 years volunteering with fellow gardeners. Two projects she assisted with last year were the Prairie Edge Park and the Habitat for Humanity home. As a member of the Church of the Nazarene for nearly four decades, Jackie was very active and she loved her church family.

As the matriarch of the family, overseeing four generations, Jackie was at home in the Shelburne Shelter for over 35 years. Paramount in her life with no doubt was her family. Jackie is remembered for her uncanny sense of humor. This aspect of her persona has been conveyed as one of her many great legacies. Her philosophy for success in marriage and in life, as a good sense of humor, being the keystone. Jackie looked forward to the holidays and family celebrations always hosting the events with style and grace. It was her rule that no matter the event or just an ordinary meal that everyone sat at the table enjoying the meal together.

Jackie is lovingly remembered by her four daughters, Tammy See, Rochester, Betsy Shelburne, State College, Pa., Misty DePoy and husband Timothy, Rochester, and Mindy Navarro and husband Hector, Rochester; seven sons, Gary Shelburne and wife Pam, Brooklyn, Jeffery Shelburne and wife Jeanie, Rochester, Scotty Shelburne and wife Karen, Camden, S.C., Rusty Shelburne and wife Laurie, Kalamazoo, Mich.; Rodney Shelburne and wife Darla, Warsaw, Randy Shelburne and wife Carol, Rochester, and Barney Shelburne and wife Lorraine, Byron, Ill.; 27 grandchildren 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bonnie Mennefee, Anderson, Linda Tucker and husband Fred, Fishers, and Jewel Eason, Westfield; and four brothers, David Wire and wife Wilma, Indianapolis, Tom Wire and wife Sandra, Noblesville, Ted Wire, Anderson, and Mike Wire and wife Cindy, Noblesville.

Along with her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; Moses and Blanche Day Wire; granddaughter Rebecca Jo Shelburne; twin grandsons, Jeremy and Jamey See; two sisters, Evelyn Fisher and Edith Hinshaw; and two brothers, Ben and Darrell Wire.

A celebration of the life of Mrs. Rebecca "Jackie" Shelburne is at noon Saturday in the Church of the Nazarene, Rochester. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, and one hour prior to the service in the church. She will be laid to rest in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery next to her beloved husband Howard.
