Arlie Dale Morford, 86
Arlie Dale Morford, 86, of Petoskey, died July 3, 2000, at Northern Michigan Hospital.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday, July 7, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. The Rev. David Behling will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Arlie was born April 21, 1914, in Petoskey, the son of Clyde and Thursa (Ward) Morford. Arlie grew up in Resort Township and attended the Morford School. For a time, he attended the Ferris Institute and was a graduate with honors from Petoskey High School. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.
On Sept. 27, 1935, he married Ellen Cowgill in Kalamazoo.
Arlie entered the U.S. Army in May of 1945 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations until July of 1946.
He was employed by the U.S. Post Office for 33 years, beginning his career in 1936 and retiring in 1969.
For many years, he also worked as a carpenter helping many people, including family and friends, build their homes in Resort Township. Arlie enjoyed the out of doors, he loved hunting and fishing, and he especially enjoyed producing maple syrup on his property in Resort Township. He was an extensive traveler, seeing many parts of the United States and Canada.
Arlie is survived by his wife, Ellen; and by their two sons, Robert (Beth) of Hamburg, N.Y., and Gerald (Julie) of Flushing, Mich.; also by four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ken and Gilbert, both of Petoskey; as well as several nieces and nephews.
