Horace Waite Bell, s. of Rev. Martin Powell Bell and Mary Edna Leach, b. Nov. 5, 1862 at Wilton, NY. He d. July 25, 1906 at Glens Falls, NY. He was named after Horace Waite, his mother's brother-in-law.

Between 1880 and 1882 Horace attended the University of Vermont. F. Phelps Leach in "Lawrence Leach of Salem, Mass..." (1926, vol. 3, p. 61) claims that Horace was a newspaper man at Raleigh, NC. To the contrary, he was a printer and newspaperman at Glens Falls, NY and never left Glens Falls during his business career.

On Aug. 2, 1887 at Glens Falls, NY, Horace m. Helen Sisson Champlin, dau. of George D. Champlin and Esther Ann Sisson, b. June 6, 1861 at Glens Falls. She d. July 22, 1924 at Glens Falls.

Horace and Helen were distant cousins, mutual descendants of George Soule, a passenger of the 1620 Mayflower voyage to Plymouth, Mass. They separately descended from different children of George2 Soule (George,1) and his wife Deborah of Dartmouth, Mass.

Horace and Helen had the following two children b. at Glens Falls, NY:

• i. Horace Waite Bell, Jr., b. Sept. 3, 1892, d. in May 1977 at Hartford, Conn.; m. aft. May 25, 1917, Gladys Vida Osborn (q.v. Osborne), dau. of George D. Osborn(e) and Lillie M. Hale. She was b. in Feb. 1892 at Hartford, Conn. where she d. May 31, 1973. Two children of the family.

• ii. Harriet Colvin Bell, b. June 11, 1894, d. unmarried Feb. 8, 1963 at Manchester, VT.
