Mr. Gibson was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Hattiesburg Country Club, a referee for over 30 years with the Hattiesburg Officials Assoc. and the MS High School Activities Assoc. and a member of First Baptist Church. He was an optician for 52 years, owner and operator of Nelson Gibson Opticians for 22 years until 1998 when he retired. After his retirement, he drove the PRVO bus for the elderly for several years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Louise Gibson; his twin sister, Nellie Harvey; and two brothers, Henry and Lloyd.
He is survived by a daughter, Pam Hudson of Purvis; three sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Lynda Gibson of Salinas, Calif., Steve and Cheri Gibson of Hattiesburg, Wesley and Brenda Gibson of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Bessie Wiggington of Piedmont, South Carolina; two brothers, Floyd Gibson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Horace Gibson of Clemson, South Carolina; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 - 11:30 a.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg."
