On May 28, 1949, he married Joan Lou Frantz. She preceded him in death on November 2, 1971. His second marriage was to Jacqueline Yelverton Brady on September 23, 1973. She died on October 15, 1995. He was a farmer in the Colfax-Frankfort area and sold Morman's Feed in the Dayton-Lafayette area and later in Winamac. He worked at the ACE office and CFS, both in Winamac. He later owned Burtons CFS in SanPierre. He moved to Victoria, Texas, in 1982 and to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in 1990. He served as a Navy Seabee with the 29th NCB and then the 97th NCB in the European theater. He was a past master of the Stockwell Masonic Lodge and a member of the South Bend Scottish Rite.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy L Burton Hunter of Chatanooga, Tennessee, Lisa Brady Tuttle of New Carlisle and Sandra Brady McGrath of Garfield Heights, Ohio; five sons, Alan Burton of Winamac, Gary Burton of Logansport, James Brady of Battleground, Gary Brady of Spring Lake, NC, and Larry Brady of Francesville; and a brother Wayne Burton, of Stockwell.
