STOCKWELL -- Wayne R. Burton, 85, of Stockwell, died at 9:25 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006, at Home Hospital. Born Aug. 12, 1920, in Stockwell, he was the son of the late F. Elmer and Esther Mae Reene Burton. He graduated from Stockwell High School in 1938 and was a lifelong resident of Stockwell. For the past 25 years, he and his wife had wintered in Lake Wales, Fla. He married Bette L. Johnson on May 17, 1941, in Stockwell. She survives. A self-employed farmer, he also farmed at the Indiana Pythian Home farm for 57 years. Mr. Burton was a member of Brady Lane Church of Christ, Farm Bureau and Tippy Camping Club. He served on the board of directors and was past president and secretary of Tipmont REMC, was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, past member of Tippecanoe County 4-H Board and was active on numerous Lauramie Township boards. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling and farming. Surviving with his wife are a son, David W. Burton (wife: Karen K. Hall) of Minneapolis, Minn.; and three daughters, Sharon K. Wheeler (husband: Marvin), Ferol J. Kirkpatrick (husband: Paul) and Carol D. Allen, all of Lafayette. Visitation 4-7:30 p.m. with Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Funeral service there at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Pastor Jason Gordon officiating. Interment Yorktown Cemetery. Seven grandchildren, Steven Wheeler (wife: Ginny), Kimberly Giroux (husband: Brad), Barbara Bruce (husband: Troy), Richard B. Allen, Matthew W. Burton (wife: Keri), Paula Holmes (husband: Nathan) and Lindsay K. Burton; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special family friend, Larry Funk, survive. Preceded in death by a brother, Robert D. Burton. Memorials to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 1415-202W.
