Melissa E. Correll was born 24 Jan 1858 just west of Mt. Ephraim, Crawford Co, IL to Alfred and Nancy Jane Hill Correll. She died 4 Sep 1931 at her home in SW Clark Co, IL. She had lived in those 2 areas all of her life except for 2 years in Texas. She married James Monroe McCrory on 28 Jun 1876 and he died 7 Oct 1929. They had 10 children, 4 of whom preceded her in death: Hannah McCrory on 27 Sep 1912; Alma Jeffers on 6 Aug 1918; Maud Jeffers on 19 Oct 1918; and Ross McCrory on 29 Jan 1920. Surviving children are: Bert of Annapolis; Harris, Ray, & Mrs. Ida Williamson of West York vicinity; Lenn of Trimble; & Mrs. Glenn Clements of Porterville. She had 37 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, one brother (Harlan Correll of Stoy), one step-brother, Henry Correll of Effingham. She raised two grandchildren, Arthur and Ruth McCrory.
