John Davis "Jack" Aiken, 76, died Monday, April 30, 2001, in a local hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Calvary Baptist Church, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at his residence, 605 W. Pine Street, Florence. Mr. Aiken was born in Florence, a son of the late Jefferson Boone and Pearl Ellis Aiken. He attended The Citadel and was retired vice-president of Aiken Loan & Security Company. He was also chairman of The Aiken Foundation. Mr. Aiken was a member and past deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Florence.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was past president and member of Florence Country Club and co-founder of the Country Club of South Carolina. He was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge No. 204 AFM, where he served as past Worshipful Master. He was also a former member of Florence Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Burch Aiken, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley H. (Elaine) Hackett of Atlanta, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Randolph M. (Laurie) Tiller of Florence, and Mr. and Mrs. John T. (Johanna) Aiken Jr. of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. David H. (Peggy) McLeod, of Florence; a sister-in-law, Mrs. J.B. (Eugenia) Aiken Jr., of Florence; 12 grandchildren; and a special friend, Mrs. Bernetha Robinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Citadel Brigadier Foundation Inc., 171 Moultrie St., Charleston, SC 29409-6180; or Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC. Published in The Greenville News on May 2, 2001.
