ROGERSVILLE - Hazel Looney Wolfe, age 97, Rogersville, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Carter's Valley near Lone Oak on Oct. 22, 1905. She attended Lincoln Memorial University and East Tennessee State Teacher's College and taught school at Lone Oak, Cold Springs, Midway, Shiloah, Fisher's Creek, Big Creek, High Point and Surgoinsville. Her greatest love was teaching first graders and giving them a good start. She retired when one of her first graders said "My grandpa went to school to you." She was the oldest member of Big Creek Baptist Church. She and her husband had a store and mill in Stanley Valley. She was the last of her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. W.A. Wolfe; parents, Starnes and Rosa Anderson Looney; brothers, Burton, Paul, Ben, Lloyd and Charles Looney; sisters, Esther Davidson, Laura Lou and Genevieve Looney; two nephews, Eugene Looney and Lee Davidson.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James A. (Jimmy) and Phyllis Williams Wolfe of the home; and several nieces and nephews. She was lovingly cared for at her home for the past 8 1/2 years by Jimmy, Phillis and several dedicated caregivers.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Dennis Price and Floyd Looney officiating. Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Highland Cemetery.
