William P. Martin
William Patrick Martin, 87, of Snow Creek in Franklin County, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, in Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount.
He was born in Tipton County, Tenn., on July 9, 1916, and spent his early years in Franklin County. He served with the Army during World War II and the Korean War before retiring from the military in 1961 with 22 years of service. He then joined the Southern Banking of Commerce, now Bank of America.
He was treasurer of Snow Creek Christian Church and on the board of Snow Creek Rescue Squad for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Doris Garf Martin; his mother, Matilda Martin Garland; two brothers, Oliver Martin and Rob Roy Martin; and two sisters, Eliza M. Love and Katherine M. Parker.
Surviving are siblings Sharon M. Christian, Jean K. Smith, Karl P. Martin and R. Michael Martin; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Snow Creek Christian Church with the Revs. Berlin Hanks and Tim Mills officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Snow Creek Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the church.
