Rob R. Martin
Rob Roy Martin, 82, of Lake Edgar Brown, Barnwell, S.C. died Wednesday, June 6, 2001.
He was born in Lynchburg, Feb. 20, 1919, son of the late William and Matilda Martin. A brother, Oliver Martin, and two sisters, Eliza Love and Katherine Parker, also preceded him in death.
He worked for E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Co. in Martinsville before enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942. He served during World War II and the Korean conflict and retired in 1967 after serving as officer in charge of the U.S. Coast Guard Station, Galloo Island, Lake Ontario, N.Y.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor; two step-daughters, Dana Thompson of Syracuse, N.Y. and Mary Alice Barth of Columbia, S.C.; two step-grandsons; and a brother, William Martin of Snow Creek.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Berlin Hanks officiating. Burial will follow in Snow Creek Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to Saturday's service at Flora Funeral Service, South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
