Obituary
Brief mention was made in this paper last week of the death of Mrs. John Zentz, of Orton township, which occurred on Saturday morning, September 4, and following is a brief sketch of the life of this estimable woman:
Mrs. Zentz was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen A. Phay, and was born at Valpariso, Indiana, on July 19, 1859, and was therefore 56 years, 1 month and 19 days of age at the time of her death.. The Phay family moved to Iowa in 1867, and on March 5, 1878, deceased was married to John Zentz at Marshalltown, where they resided until the year 1899 when they moved to Orton township, this county, and have since resided in that town. Thirteen children were born to them, nine boys and four girls, as follows: Bessie E., Charles F., Claude O., John D., Cora P., George U., Mabel M., Harry M., Phillip C., Ned L., Joe B., Della M., and Arthur P.
Deceased was a lady of true Christian character and her many acts of kindness and cheerful words of encouragement to those in trouble and sorrow won her a large number of lifelong friends who will deeply mourn her death. Mrs. Zentz enjoyed good health until last December when she was taken ill and since that time she gradually failed in health, although being confined to her bed but a few days before she passed away.
The bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of the community in their sorrow.
