Bernard M. Bannach, 77, 424 Second Street North, Stevens Point, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at St. Michael's Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dennis Worzalla officiating. Burial will take place at St. Martin Cemetery in the town of Almond.
Visitation will be at Boston Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and in the St. Faustina Room of the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service. A rosary will be prayed at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Friday.
A memorial will be established in his name later.
Mr. Bannach was born June 14, 1926 in the town of Buena Vista, a son of the late Bernard and Verona (Meronk) Bannach. He attended schools in the area and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School.
He joined the U.S. Navy May 26, 1945, and was honorably discharged Aug. 2, 1946, at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois. He received the WWII Victory Medal. He was stationed in Corpus Christi Texas and Great Lakes, Ill.
After the military he attended electronics school in Chicago for a year, and then dairy farmed for a while. From 1953 to 1954 he worked in Winona, MN for the U.S. Postal Service on a train mail car. After that he came back to the area and began his own dairy farm, farming until 1962.
From 1962 to 1976 he ran Bannach Radio and Electric Shop and also did agricultural and residential wiring. In 1976 he began working for Basic American Foods as an electrician, retiring in 1988.
He was married to Marie Clark Nov. 20, 1951. She died June 7, 1998.
He was married to Germaine Wroblewski Nov. 3, 2001.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1572.
Survivors include his wife, Germaine; three sons, Gregory (Melody), Bancroft, Bernard V. (Cynde), Stevens Point, and Bruce (Deborah), Lagenreichen, Southern Germany; three daughters, Marcia (Ronald) Draeger, Spencer, Theresa Bannach, Marshfield, Luann (David) Poffinbarger, Gillett; one stepdaughter, Charmaine (Timothy) Kennedy, Almond; one stepson, James (Marlene) Wroblewski, Rhinelander; four sisters, Veronica Niewiadomski and Helen (Bert) Trzebiatowski, both of Plover, Florence (Al) Brown, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Frances Bannach, Joshua, Texas; one brother, Leonard, Plover; 13 grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, two brothers, one sister and one stepdaughter.
