Jeffrey Alan Short

Paxico -- Funeral services for Jeffrey Alan Short, 44, Paxico, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland. The Rev. Jeff Geske will be officiating. Mr. Short died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at his home following a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of the area.

He was born April 8, 1959, in Topeka, the son of Richard and Mary Ann Schultz Short. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1977.
He worked as a Journeyman Wireman and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local No. 304 and No. 226. He worked for Jeffrey Energy Center and during his retirement worked as a Maintenance Technician. He was a Master Electrician and an apprentice instructor.

He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland, where he served as an elder and was vice president. He was also a member of the AAL Branch No. 2801 of the Lutheran church. He was a member of the T.H.E. Archery Club, a PTL officer, and a member of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association. He taught computer classes at St. John's Lutheran School in Alma and was a trap shooter, fly fisherman and motorcycle enthusiast.

He married Jacquelyn Schmidt on June 12, 1982, in Alma. She survives (at) their home.
He also is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Short, and his son, Michael Short, also of the home; his mother, Mary Ann Short, Topeka; his father and stepmother, Richard and Sally Short, Paxico; two sisters, Lisa Zeller and her husband, Donny, Paxico, and Lori "Guss" Short, Topeka; a step-sister, Angela Sievers, Lawrence; two brothers, Steven Short and his wife, Janice and Kevin Short and his wife, Sandra, both of Topeka; and a step-brother, Rick Vorhies and his wife Lori, Olathe.

Mr. Short will lie in state starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday at RJ Evans-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma. The family will greet friends at a visitation starting at 7 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland.
They suggest memorial contributions to the Jeff Short Memorial Fund and those may be sent in care of the mortuary.
