Steven Michael Short, 60, Topeka, Kansas, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021, after an eight- month battle with cancer.

Steve was born August 26, 1960, in Topeka, to Mary Ann Schultz Short. He attended Holy Name Grade School and graduated from Hayden High School in 1978. On May 4, 1984, Steve married.

Steve was a lineman for 40 years retiring from Evergy in 2021. He was an active member of IBEW Local 304, attending meetings, holding offices and volunteering. He was a dedicated volunteer: for the Boy Scouts, including many projects at Camp Jayhawk, for the Hayden PACE Auction, for Most Pure Heart of Mary Church and assisted with the charitable works of Evergy. Steve also worked with the electrical engineering department at K-State to erect a wind turbine in Manhattan in memory of his son, Lucas Christopher Short, who died in 2008.

Grateful to have shared Steve's life are his wife, daughter, his father, siblings, and sister-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.

Steve was also preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Short and his mother, Mary Ann Short.

The rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Thursday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, with visitation until 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church. Inurnment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
