William and Bethiah Brown Pratt came to Wood County in 1814, crossing Lake Erie in an open boat. They had previously lived in Canada and owned a farm and a store there. William served in the War of 1812 and rose to the rank of General. He ran the first schooner on the Maumee River. William was first buried on his farm but later his remains were moved to Fort Meigs. The couple had seven children: Jonas who died in Henry County in 1849, William who served in the War of 1812 and died in Grand Rapids in 1869, Hiram who died in Wood County in 1854, Amos who was a steamboat captain and died in Buffalo, New York in the 1850's, Sarah who married Judge Jerome of Lucas County, Jane who married Francis Hinsdale and lived in Lucas County, James who moved to Illinois, and Benjamin who remained in Perrysburg. William was the son of Jonas and Jennet "Jenny" Jane Foster Pratt. He married Bethiah Brown on 12 November 1798 in Phillipston, Massachusetts. His will was probated on 21 August 1824 in Shelby, Ohio.
