lorenzo Dow Ewing's parents were Calvin Ewing and Joanna Allen Ewing.
His siblings included Julia Ann, Peleg, Lucretia, Darius, Chester, Sally, James, Mary, Ellen and Nancy Ewing.
In 1866 he married. He and his wife Mary Ann's children included James, Arthur, Effie, Thomas, Stephen, Sadie and DeFay.
Per the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, he was a foreman for the railroad. He continued to work for the railroad until his death.

Pennsylvania Bridge Foreman Died Near Trout Run of Heart Disease.
L. D. EWING of Elmira, N.Y., a Pennsylvania railroad bridge foreman was found unconscious alongside the Northern Central Tracks near Trout Run yesterday morning a short time before 11 o'clock. He was taken to the home of Clyde Strobel where he died a few minutes later without recovering consciousness.
Mr. Ewing was in charge of building a bridge between Trout Run and Fields Station. He went to Fields Station yesterday morning from Elmira, arriving there about 9:50. Then he started to walk toward the scene of the work. No one saw him as he was going down the track but a few minutes before 11 o'clock Miles Krotzer, a trackwalker, found him face down in the cinders alongside the tracks. He summoned help and had him carried to the Strobel home and a physician summoned, but it was too late.
Mr. Ewing was well known along the entire division and in this city, and had many friends. He was one of the best known Pennsylvania men in Elmira.

His name was Lorenzo DOW (not Don) Ewing born May 1843, per records. He was named for a popular preacher of the day. It is verified that he died in 1914, not 1915 despite the year on the headstone.
