Ronald (Ronnie) Newton, age 62 of Andrews, NC passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at his residence.

He was a native and a lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC; son of C.B. Newton of Marble, NC and the late Birdell Brooks Newton. Ronnie retired from Coats American after 37 years of service as a mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working with his farm equipment. Ronnie was a member of Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church and was ordained as a Deacon on February 6, 2011. He enjoyed playing the bass guitar at church and enjoyed working with his church family. Ronnie will be missed by his loving wife, family and friends.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley Newton; four brothers, L.C. Newton and wife, Sondra, Hal Newton and wife, Betty, Richard Newton and wife, Sue all of Marble, NC and Dillard Newton and wife, Debbie of Kings Mountain, NC; two sisters, Peggy King and husband, Bud of Blairsville, GA and Eva Lowe and husband, Jerry of Marble, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church in Andrews, NC. Brother Wayne Morgan, Brother Sam Hayes and Brother Homer Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the Valley River Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Lowe, Tim Hopkins, Hal Junior Newton, Tom Williams and Willis Whitaker. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Hicks, Reid Wilson, Tony Jones, Mike Solesbee, Randall Carpenter, Russ Pruett, Oliver Flowers, Greg Conley, Brother Roy Howard and Lloyd West.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Friday, May 6, 2011 at Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church in Andrews, NC where the body will remain until being placed thirty minutes prior to the service hour.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Valley River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jean Phillips, PO Box 1189, Andrews, NC 28901.
