Martha Lili Freeman, born 14 September 1913, in Marietta, Oklahoma. Martha attended North Texas Agricultural College (now the University of Texas at Arlington) and worked in Fort Worth, Texas, where she met and married Arthur Lee (Jack) France, Jr. Jack was born 17 April 1910, in Springdale, Washington Co., Arkansas. He is the son of Arthur Lee France, Sr., and Sarah Courtney Holland. Jack grew up in Gillette, Arkansas Co., Arkansas, and attended Arkansas Tech and then Brantley Draughan Business College in Fort Worth. Jack and Martha were married 30 April 1936.
Jack served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the transportation corps in the Pacific Theater. Martha lived and worked in Seattle, Washington, while Jack was in service. Later, Jack owned a small loan business in Fort Worth and then sold real estate before he retired.
Martha worked for the Department of Fish and Wildlife until her retirement. She is a member of the Texas Poetry Society and the Fort Worth Poetry Society and has written many award winning poems. Jack died 14 January 1985, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas. Martha resides in Fort Worth.
