Virginia Lee Taylor, 88, of Bedford, Tx passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2014.

Service: 3 p.m. Thursday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel.

Virginia was born March 6, 1925, in Davis, Okla., the youngest of six children of James Davis Freeman Sr. and Parthena Prichard Freeman.

In her early life, Virginia lived in Arlington, where she attended the Arlington public schools, graduating from Arlington High School in 1942. She graduated from North Texas Agricultural College, now the University of Texas at Arlington, in 1944. In her early career, she worked for radio station KFJZ and later for an advertising agency.

In 1949, she met her future husband, Brant Haviland Taylor, and they were married June 2, 1950. During their years together, they shared a mutual love of travel. They vacationed in all 50 states, all of the Canadian provinces and the Yukon Territory. They also traveled in 15 Mexican states and the Central American countries of Costa Rica and Panama. In addition, they traveled in 30 foreign countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the South Pacific.
Virginia returned to school and she received her B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from North Texas State University, now the University of North Texas, in Denton. She retired in 1984 after 18 years of teaching fifth grade at Wilshire Elementary in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District.

Virginia was a member of Shady Oaks Baptist Church and Hurst-Euless-Bedford Retired School Employees.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Brant Taylor; her parents; her beloved aunt, Zona Prichard; brothers, J.D. Freeman Jr. and Truman W. Freeman; and sisters, Willie Mae Simmons, Martha France and Genevieve Anderson.

Survivors: Son, Robert Brant Taylor; daughter, Thena Anne Taylor and husband, Eric Gutt; granddaughters, Allie and Natalie Taylor-Gutt; sister-in-law, Rene Freeman; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
