Philip Weiker, 71, pioneer resident of Fremont, and for many years living at his home on Ohio avenue, died there Sunday morning at 1 o'clock, following a lingering illness of asthma. He suffered greatly for several years with this disease, but always bore his sickness with patience.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Ohio avenue home and will be private. Rev. D. Artis of Toledo will preach the funeral and he will be assisted at the services by Rev. J. E. Baker. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery will follow.
Philip Weiker was born at Four-Mile House June 28, 1850. the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Weiker. He was baptized in the Lutheran church by the late Rev. Henry Lang and lived there until a boy seven years old. His mother died and his father remarried and moved to Riley township. Mr. Weiker spent his early days there with many hardships, helping his father to clear up the land. He was well known throughout Sandusky County. At the age of 24 years, he was married to Miss Martha Laughinghouse, June 3, 1874. They moved to Riley township and lived there seven years, giving up farming and moving to Fremont 39 years ago, where he spent the remainder of his years.
Mr. Weiker was the father of ten children, six of whom are living, He leaves to mourn his death a widow, three daughters and three sons, Mrs. C. F. Cooper of Dundee, Mich.; Mrs. Clara Dickson of Toledo; Mrs. Gardner Willey of Fremont; Walter Weiker of Cleveland; Charles and Thomas Weiker of Fremont. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, two sistres and one brother, Mrs. Kate Ehrman of St. Louis, Mich.; Mrs. Mary Karbler of Erlin, and Jacob Weiker of Riley.
The deceased was a devoted Christian, a member of the A. M. E. church on Second street; of which he had been a trustee for many years. He was a kind and devoted husband and father, an upright, industrious citizen, who had a large number of friends.

The funeral of Philip Weiker, well known pioneer of Fremont was held Tuesday afternoon at his late residence and was largely attended by relatives and friends. Rev. Elijah Artis of Toledo, formerly of Fremont, officiated at the last rites, assisted by Rev. J. T. Baker of the Fremont A. M. E. church. A quartet from the church choir rendered several selections during the services in the home.
The pallbearers were three sons: Charles, Thomas and Walter Weiker, a grandson, Theo. Weiker, two sons-in-law, Joseph Toney and Gardner Willey. There were many beautiful flowers.
Among the relatives from out of the city who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Laura Godett, Henry and Frank Godett. Ella and James Quinn, Susan Quinn, all of Oberlin; Samuel Gaines, Castalia; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Weiker, Cleveland: Mrs. C. F. Cooper, Dundee, Mich., Mrs. Clara Dixon, Mrs. Mattie Campbell and Miss Dorothy Dixon of Toledo, and others.
