Obituary:
GENE HARRIS KENNEDY
Gene Harris Kennedy, beloved wife, mother, and teacher, a native of Oak City, died at home in San Diego, California on April 8, 1997.

Gene was born and raised in the loving home of Earl and Silva Harris, July 12, 1927. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1949, taught school in Hawaii, then completed a fulltime mission in Japan. Upon completion of her mission, she returned to Provo where she met her husband-to-be, Tom H. Kennedy. They were both attending summer courses at BYU and were paired up as dance partners in a campus musical. Tom and Gene were married in the Manti Temple December 27, 1956.

Gene is survived by Tom and their four children: Linda, Kristine, Pauline, and Mark.

After the children came, Gene never went back to teaching professionally, but continued to express her great love for children and talent for music as a piano teacher for beginning students. This, she did for over 30 years, and was actively engaged as a piano teacher until a few weeks prior to her death. Her family loved her, as she loved them.

She has three brothers and one sister living in Utah. Grant Harris of Spanish Fork, Keith Harris of Provo, and Don Harris of Delta. Her sister, Diane Porter, resides in the original family home in Oak City with her husband, Elzo.

Gene was a great missionary, by examples, to her dying breath. She will be greatly missed.

Graveside services and burial was at the Oak City Cemetery on Tuesday, April 15, 1997.
