On June 13, 1831, John received title to 80 acres in the E1/2 SW1/4 of section 36 in T7NR9E, which is at present Newton in Jasper County, Illinois. He paid $100 for the land and there had:

Thomas' second wife Hannah died in Newton, Illinois on August 20, 1836.
Note: There is no proof Thomas is buried in Riverside Cemetery since no stone but was located next to his land. The earliest stone in the cemetery is dated 1842 but as Newton was the county seat when Jasper County was created in 1831, the cemetery must predate that.
