Thomas' second wife Hannah died in Newton, Illinois on August 20, 1836.

Note: There is no proof Thomas is buried in Riverside Cemetery since no stone but was located next to his land. The earliest stone in the cemetery is dated 1842 but as Newton was the county seat when Jasper County was created in 1831, the cemetery must predate that.
