Kerstin "Kristi" was the eldest child of Olof and Martha Johannesdotter Turnblad in Sweden. Her mother died and Olof remarried. Kerstin was married first to Ake Magnus Petersson in Sweden and had one child who died. She then married John Monson Hyllengren in 1863 and they came to America shortly after. They had eight children: Ingrid Christine, Emelie Maria (died in Sweden), Adolph Justus, Emelie Maria, Oscar Muns Peter, Anna Mattilda, Hattie Amanda, Emil Hjalmer.
