Served with Co.D 2nd Wisconsin Vol. Cav. during the civil war of 1861-65, He came out west to Idaho in the late 1870s and listed his occupation as "Farmer & Rancher" on his 1879 GAR Membership application. He died of Liver failure brought on by old age and not because of vicious habbits (Noted on his Death citf.) on Aug. 1st 1922 at age 83
He was buried in the Forest Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene Idaho with full military honors by GAR Post No.18.
