Born William John Huffman, (the name was changed to Hoffman), the son of John Walter and Christena Hoffman Huffman Jr. He was the brother of John Lewis, Mary Polly, Margaret H., Sarah E., Elizabeth, Caroline, Josephine, James, Catherine, Walter Lowry, Daniel and Henry Barkey G. Hoffman. In 1885 he married Mary Ann Morrison and was the father of Elizabeth Bessie Hoffman.
